BIOGRAPHY

M J Turner is a musician, guitar teacher & arts facilitator based in Adelaide, South Australia. As a multidisciplinary artist, he’s passionate about creative practice & using this as a tool to promote wellbeing.

With more than 25 years of experience as a guitarist, Mark has performed around Australia & toured internationally, playing on stages from Australia's spiritual heart Uluru to Britain’s majestic Isle of Wight.

His compositions feature on numerous releases involving a diverse range of musical projects, covering genres that include world music (The Wild Bloom), folk (Wanderlust) & prog rock (The Baron).

As a teenager, the love of guitar was sparked when Mark learned under Australian blues icon James Meston ‘Sweet Baby James’, starting with a love of classic rock and blues music. Mark now passes this passion onto his own students, teaching the guitar via online lessons to pupils across the globe.

But Mark’s artistic practice does not begin and end with the guitar.

In 2015, Mark moved to the remote APY Lands in South Australia to take up a position as studio manager at Tjungu Palya Arts Centre, an experience that had a profound influence on his creative and professional development.

He has since become an accomplished visual artist working with acrylic on canvas and mixed media, whilst excelling as an experienced art facilitator who specialises in community arts projects, studio setups & professional artistic development.

In this capacity, he has worked with organisations such as Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute, Ku Arts, Better World Arts, Hutt Street Centre and Expressions Media.

Across all of Mark’s practices, his goal is to establish meaningful connections with a multicultural and diverse audience through the global language of music & arts.
