BIOGRAPHY
M J Turner is a musician, guitar teacher & arts facilitator based in Adelaide, South Australia. As a multidisciplinary artist, he is passionate about creative practice & using this as a tool to promote wellbeing.
With over 25 years of experience, Mark 'M J' Turner has performed extensively, playing stages ranging from Australia's spiritual heart Uluru to Britain’s majestic Isle of Wight.
His compositions feature on numerous projects, covering genres that include Prog Rock, Folk and World Music.
The love of guitar began as a teenager upon discovering the music of Jimi Hendrix, Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughn. That led to a journey exploring the history of the Blues and studying musicians such as Howling Wolf, John Lee Hooker & R.L Burnside.
Mark continues to pass on this passion and knowledge by teaching students globally via online lessons.
However, his artistic practice does not begin and end with music and the guitar.
In 2015, Mark moved to the remote APY Lands in South Australia to take up a position as studio manager at Tjungu Palya Arts. This experience had a profound influence on his creative and professional development.
He has since become an accomplished Art Facilitator, specialising in professional artistic development & community arts projects.
In this capacity, he has worked with organisations such as Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute, Ku Arts, Better World Arts, Hutt Street Centre and Expressions Media.
Across his artistic practices, he aims to establish meaningful connections with a multicultural and diverse audience through the global language of music & arts.
Whether you are looking for guitar lessons, an arts-based workshop, or a musician for your next event, Mark can assist you. His passion for creative practice and his commitment to promoting wellbeing make him a valuable asset to anyone looking to explore their artistic potential.
